Healthy Eating

For many years, nuts of all types were demonised by dieticians due to their high oil content. Nowadays however it is understood that there is no simple correlation between dietary fats and health or weight gain. Pecans are very high in monounsaturated oils which play an important role in lowering cholesterol; this in turn can dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease.

Moreover, the substantial levels of protein and dietary fibre in Pecans have a considerable hunger satiating effect such that snacking on moderate quantities of Pecans is more likely to promote weight loss than weight gain. For optimum health benefit, dieticians now recommend an intake of 30g of Pecan nuts five days a week.

Pecans are arguably the most versatile of all nuts: not only are they fabulous to snack on straight from the shell, they also work marvellously well with sweet and savoury flavourings. Pecans have myriad applications in baking and confections, and are easy to use in savoury dishes such as salads, stir-fries, seasonings and crusts and even soups.
